Is that the French Fry Oil Car?! How much did that cost to convert?
It's the fuel that is converted, not the car. YOUR CAR DOES NOT NEED TO BE CONVERTED. The Biodiesel Co-Op of L.A. buys fuel that is locally sourced and is already treated to burn in diesel Cars of all makes and models. The Biodiesel Co-op currently uses RENEWABLE DIESEL which is comprised of oils and fats that burn in any make and model of diesel vehicle (or generator). The smell of our fuel is much more pleasant than old school crude diesel. Since your car no longer needs to be converted to use our fuel you can mix crude diesel with out fuel if you run low somewhere outside of Kalamazoo. Don't worry we will forgive you for mixing the high pollutant fuel, but will your nose?
Why isn't Biodiesel & Renewable Diesel everywhere?
The Oil industry receives $18.7 billion in government subsidies annually... the Biodiesel CoOp of L.A. receive $0 in government subsidies and we are all volunteers.

Education and Advocacy

Although it is not required as part of your membership to volunteer to help advocate for Biodiesel and Renewable Diesel, it is highly encouraged. Our members are often asked to get involved in our various public appearances, like attending the Alt Car show in Santa Monica.

Everything has changed. Now any diesel vehicle can use our fuel.
It has been a long time since the underground, word of mouth, biodiesel revolution, had people all across the United States collecting used restaurant oil and then recycling it. It is a messy job, and requires a license in California to collect used oil, yet some people still do this (See the video section of this webpage for a Huell Howser video on making your own fuel).
In 2005, right in the height of this underground revolution, the Biodiesel Co-op of Los Angeles was founded. Back then, our fuel couldn't be used with newer diesel vehicles, and many users would end up buying and driving old Mercedes Benz Diesels and so BioDiesel was often associated with these "classics".
This has all changed.
Ten Years later, the Biodiesel Co-op of L.A. is thriving, and is now inclusive to ALL DIESEL VEHICLES. Thanks to their use of locally sourced renewable diesel, pretty much any diesel vehicle can use our fuel.

Is the Co-Op a Non-Profit?
No. Although we advocate, we educate, and we work hard to reduce our carbon emission and to help live in a clean environment. We can not be a non-profit since we sell fuel.
However, the Co-Op is made up of volunteers. No one is paid. We do this to make a difference and reduce our personal carbon emissions. Every cent we make off of sales and memberships fees are used to pay our insurance, business licenses, repairs, and taxes. We are a registered corporation with the state of California and we file with the IRS accordingly.
